Now, it’s one of the most beloved and oldest businesses in town—and for good reason. House of Musical Tradition specializes in making western instruments, like Breedlove acoustic guitars, and rarer non-western musical instruments, like tabla drums, accessible. While our focus is on acoustic, folk and traditional instruments from the US and around the world, we carry "a little bit of everything," including some electric instruments, pro audio equipment, accessories and books. We can repair almost any kind of instrument, through our wide network of local repair technicians. We also rent instruments for school band and orchestra programs, as well as many folk/acoustic instruments. We offer purchase, trade & consignment for your used instruments, as well as appraisals for insurance or other purposes.

— and lobby on the steps of the Capitol and meet with lawmakers. So TikTok has this army of lobbyists that’s suddenly scrambling. This morning, House lawmakers have agreed unanimously to move a bill to a full floor vote. TikTok has pushed back really forcefully against these accusations. They said that Gallup polls show that young people view Israel differently than older generations. They say that they’re not the ones influencing what people post, that the hashtags and the videos are a reflection of the user base and nothing that they’re doing to influence.

Rap: LA Hood Life Tours

Since its mid-February reopening, the space has played host to everyone from French DJ Fred Falke and DJ Harvey to live sets from SG Lewis and Lil Kim. Lodge Room opened just prior to Covid, taking over a brick-faced former Masonic Temple in Highland Park, the hip Northeast neighborhood that takes itself less seriously than Silverlake. Once rented out hourly for quinceañeras, the Lodge now hosts everyone from Stephen Malkmus to Feist and every indie band cruising through town. With a capacity of 500 and a debaucherous “anything goes” vibe, the space is toasty, inviting, and a heck of a lot of fun.

Our lessons program is the School of Musical Traditions, located in Takoma Park, MD.

David started a folk concert series inside the store in the 1980s, which eventually became the Institute of Musical Traditions, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. IMT currently offers virtual programming as well as concerts in venues around Montgomery County, MD. In 2017, the store began expanding its lessons program, which has become the School of Musical Traditions. Private and group lessons are offered at the school's main location at 7112 Willow Ave, Takoma Park, MD. HYBE founder Bang Si-Hyuk will be bestowed with the lifetime achievement Gold Legend Honor and Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary will be celebrated with the Gold Generation Award. Capitol Studios opened its doors over 60 years ago, getting down to business with Frank Sinatra’s Frank Sinatra Conducts Tone Poem of Color.

“George was instrumental,” says Danny Rampling, who has turned up to see the plaque at the location of Shoom, a club he ran from 1987 to 1990. This Bud’s for YouOver in Culver City, well-dressed “budtenders” take you through the offerings at the High Note, a music-inspired dispensary where strains take on a whole new meaning. Designed like a Prohibition-era speakeasy that includes hidden doors, the space offers an assortment of flower, pens, edibles, and accessories, along with curated playlists that help customers pair their cannabis with budtender-approved soundtracks. One of the few independent venues remaining in L.A.’s music scene, the Paramount also houses a pizza parlor on the first floor, providing a feast for the ears — and food for the soul. Yes, there’s the traffic, which can make “taking the scenic route” feel like walking the plank, but it seems L.A. Is finally feeling like one big (cohesive) city again, with an eclectic mix of artists and venues bringing everyone together for a good time.

We take great care inspecting used instruments before they get put out for sale. All used instruments are checked over by our expert staff and/or by one of our luthiers/repair people to check for any issues with playability. If repairs were done, we will state that in the description. No LA music tour would be complete without a visit to the legendary Hollywood Bowl. Opened in 1922, this famed amphitheater and veritable LA landmark abounds in history, which is detailed via a range of exhibits in an excellent free museum.

Is home to the GRAMMY Museum, one of the city’s greatest cultural resources. Featuring exhibits on everything from punk rock to Motown, the museum takes advantage of L.A.’s central status in the music industry to offer unique collections of artifacts and treasures that provide illuminating context to the sounds of our lives. IMT was born in 1988 from a concert series started by David Eisner, the owner of the House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, Maryland. IMT's world-class performances, programs, and other activities are funded through corporate donations, foundations and public funding agencies, but mostly through ticket sales and contributions from individual supporters.

IMT’s concerts include professionally produced sound by engineers experienced with acoustic music. Performers will need to submit a sound specification and stage plot at least two weeks before the show. IMT presents events in a listening-room or theater environment in a range of venues, from rooms with 50 to 240 seats to halls seating 500 or more. We work with artists and agents to find the right venue for each performance. We generally need to book shows at least two months in advance to meet promotion deadlines.

So it’s very clear that TikTok plans to challenge this law in court. And the court fight to follow will determine the fate of TikTok’s future in the US. And I mean, it’s an interesting thing that ByteDance and TikTok have to grapple with.

Except for accordions and some sound equipment items, repair estimates are free. Most of our repair technicians do the work in their own shops, so please be prepared to leave your instrument with us (you'll receive a claim check). Where possible, we recommend pre-authorizing up to a certain dollar amount for repair (this will be notated when you drop your item off). This usually makes turnaround time faster, if the repairperson does not have to wait for your approval on a standard repair job. However, our repair contractors are also happy to contact you with an estimate before proceeding, if you prefer. Please see below for basic pricing on common repair jobs.

And so they’re trying to make it as rock solid as possible so that they can win in court when TikTok challenges this law. And so March rolls around, and they decide that it’s time to unveil this bill that they’ve been working on for close to a year. But it’s never been able to shake these concerns around the fact that it has really close ties to China. And lawmakers, for years, have been worried that the Chinese government could somehow use ByteDance and TikTok to get information on Americans or possibly spread propaganda. What this law really does is it puts the future of this hugely popular app with 170 million American users into question.

Someone that loves music, plays music, collects instruments. Indie, folk, Americana, pop blues, bluegrass, old-time, Celtic players, and listeners. We are proud to offer a large selection of high-quality used instruments.

Still, Eisner himself, never picked up an instrument, and was instead more involved in competitive swimming, which eventually guaranteed his admission to the University of Maryland in 1966. Without really trying, he found himself yet again around music and musicians during his time as a student. We enjoy having the opportunity to return older instruments to use, and will do our best to present as fair and accurate an estimate as possible and inform you of changes. But the final cost must remain somewhat open-ended, and the customer must be prepared to deal with a flexible bottom line.

Before becoming a professional World multi-instrumentalist and instrument repair person, Mr. Duvel referred to himself as a mobile psychotherapist philosopher – and drove a cab! As a world musician, multi-instrumental performing artist, jazz improvisor, music instructor, and sound healing practitioner, Alexander's lifelong passion for music has infused every aspect of life. He has spent decades in the pursuit of a diverse range of musical knowledge and disciplines, musical cultures and world instruments from every corner of the globe.

And this sets off huge alarm bells for this small group of lawmakers. So this group really wanted to keep this out of the eyes of TikTok, which has a huge lobbying presence in DC, and has successfully worked to kill bills that targeted TikTok in the past. And what they’re really doing is looking at all of the past efforts to either force a sale or a ban of TikTok, and trying to work their way through why those plans didn’t succeed and what they can do differently.

TikTok has reshaped the way many people listen to music. So Sapna, tell me about this law that just passed that potentially bans the social media app TikTok. We’ve seen efforts in the past to rein in TikTok, but this one really seems like the most substantial yet.
